Sheinar

Sheinar is the Northernmost of the Free Kingdoms. It Borders the glacial peaks of the Border Range. The mountains that stand between Shail' Garath, and the free Kingdoms. In the Northeastern portion of Sheinar, is the Battle Pass, a wide valley between two peaks that is practically the only way into or out of Shail'Garath for the Hordes of Morgonth. Sheinar stands at the tip of the spear, the first line of defense against the evils that lay in that fell land. It is due to the vigilance of the men and women of Sheinar, that so many in the far South, consider Orcs to be creatures of myth and fancy.

Summers are short and winters are long and brutal, in Sheinar. The growing season is brief but the wildlife is plenty, so the Sheinarans are hunters mostly, importing grains and other foodstuffs from the south. Many of the southern realms assist Sheinar with food, materials, and even soldiers, knowing that if the stalwart Northmen fall, nothing will stand between their fertile lands, and Hordes.

Sheinar is a Monarchy and has been ruled in a line unbroken since the end of the last age, by the Nissokoff family. The Current king, Rojestin Nissokoff III, is reputed to be a fair minded man and a fearsome foe. He is a younger man, for a King, having recently assumed the throne at 27, but for a decade before that, he stood in the Battle Pass each Spring when the Hordes began their assaults. He led from the front, when sorely pressed, and his tactical thinking has saved the day from the rear, on many occasions.

The standing Armies of Sheinar are mostly heavily armored foot soldiers, supported by light fast Cavalry that fire bows from horseback. Having said that, almost everyone in Sheinar is expected to be in the Militia from the age of 16 to 50. Many times, every citizen of the country had to take arms to defend their own lives and that of their King.
