What follows is a defining moment, in a game world under construction. It marks the end of the last age and the beginning of the present one. It is an ongoing work, at the moment, and is subject to change and tweaking.
 

The Breaking of the World

In a moment of lucidity, the old man looked around the opulent bedchamber. The fog of his madness had cleared, and his eyes beheld his lovely bride, Mirena, sprawled across their marriage bed, her head twisted at an odd angle, her arms wrapped protectively about the lifeless and bloodied body of their son, Rondaelus. He knew what had happened. driven mad by the power of Siralya, he had slain them without mercy. Without hesitation, for their endless imagined plotting against him.

But now, something drew back the veil of madness, to let him know what he had done. Anguish and self loathing filled him, and his mind truly snapped. Beyond recall or redemption, the voices in his head spoke the utter truth.

"Murderer. Madman. Hero, ha!"

"NO! I am The Chimera, I alone have harnessed the power of Siralya, the Sun itself, burns because I allow it to! Mirena will not die!"

He reached out to her, commanding the magic of the hidden world to do his bidding. Mirena's body lurched, and at his will stood up on the floor, her head flopping in a grotesque manner. The old man commanded her heart to beat. And Siralya heeded his call, her heart squeezed and her blood already starting to thicken, oozed like molasses through it. He commanded her lungs to expand, and her corpse sucked air in through her lifeless mouth.

"Live damn you, Live, The Chimera commands it!" He raged, in his head. but the only answer, was in his head.

"She is dead, you fool, you Hero of Heroes. You snapped her neck, and no power in any world will bring her back from that. Hahahaaa!AAAAaaahahaha!"

The laughter in his mind mocked him, but he knew it spoke truly. He released the body from his power and it collapsed to the floor. Broken and wracked with his grief and self loathing, he harnessed his power once more, and became as a ray of light, streaking through the sky, to the Chasm of Shail Ga'rath.

The home, and stronghold of his Enemy, The Enemy, the Evl one, Morgonth, as he was named, ages ago beyond counting. The Chimera would end this never ending battle, once and for all. It was because of Morgonth, he had taken the power of Siralya, and thus lost his sanity, and in his madness murdered the only things he thought were worth saving. There was no nobility in his deeds now, no seeking for the glory of man, only wrath, and vengeance were in his heart.

He called Morgonth out of his hole, and his voice rang upon the walls of the Chasm, as a Thunderclap, irresistable, Morgonth could not flee, nor cower, but only respond. The Chimera pulled himself full of the strength of Siralya, His body shined like a star, the pain seared his broken mind like a brand.

Morgonth appeared from the depths of his Hold, and roared, and the heat of his breath rolled like lava over the lands. The two titans joined in battle, each calling greater forces with each blow, and each shield, and the lands were rent and set aflame. They battled across plains, and mountains were turned up in their wake. Rivers that had flowed for ages were swallowed by great canyons. Mountain ranges were plowed down like anthills. Forests felled and seas burned, and in the end, the world was lost.

Morgonth was cast down, in exile, defeated and crippled, his Planar Palace, now his prison, as the Order of the Silver knights, wizards of renown, (of whom The Chimera had once been First Knight, and foremost in their reckoning), in those first days after the breaking, sealed the door. Trapping Morgonth inside for eternity.

The Chimera, had died, calling so much power in his final stroke, his body had turned to dust. But in that moment, every man, every woman, every child in the world, no matter the perils and calamities they faced, heard The Chimeras dying scream.

"Mirenaaaaaaaaaa!"
