March 4 1AM - UPDATE

If you've found us again, welcome.  This site should be fully functional, feel free to go about your business.  The regular URL will catch up to us as soon as it can.  Smile

Three cheers for the Admin team!  The known issues have changed, so I'll list them again.  The extraneous characters have been fixed and are no longer an issue.

  • Links - Several of the forums and FAQ entries will have broken links.  This is because we're getting rid of the /drupal in the move.  This is another item that will be manually fixed.  If you find yourself in need of one of these links, you should be able to acess the page, by removing the /drupal from the URL.
  • Menues - Until the DNS catches up to us, some of the hard coded menu links won't work.  Use the search box or the drop down boxes at the top of the page, in the interim to find your pages.
  • The Active Moves Block will be gone, PLEASE start using the drop down boxes at the top of the site.  I promise that you'll love them once you get used to them.  They're a brilliant way to navigate the site, they just take some getting used to.  Trust me, as more games begin on the site, those drop down navigational boxes will be a life saver.  IF...you seriously have an issue with using the drop down menues, I'll make the Active Moves block an optional content block, but it is very admin intensive and as the site grows will be difficult to keep up with.  BUT, seriously, if you can't live w/o the static links, let it be known - I'm not unreasonable.
  • Broken Images in game moves.  After the site is moved, KL will import the image database, and those should be repaired in short order.
  • Smilies are also broken, we're aware of the issue and it's on the list.

March 3 - UPDATE

We're doing final checks of the mirror site, to make sure there aren't any other lingering issues that we don't know about.  There were some problems with getting the database ported over and KL has spent a lot of hours working through those issues.  Assuming we don't find anything else, Dave will initiate the DNS transfer later today.

Here are the KNOWN issues, please read this section.  If you find something NOT on this list, please send me a PM or post it in the forum.

  1. There are extraneous characters in a lot of the blog entries and game moves.  The database port didn't interpret some characters (quotes, apostrophes, ..., and a few other minor characters) correctly.  And in place of those characters, it inserted the extraneous characters.  This ONLY happened in instances where items were copied from Word, we know that these two things don't play nicely with each other...and unfortunately it's causing us some extra work.  This is going to be a manual fix, and other than showing up 'new/updated' items in your disappearing content block, shouldn't affect you at all.  We'll correct the active game moves first.
  2. Links - Several of the forums and FAQ entries will have broken links.  This is because we're getting rid of the /drupal in the move.  This is another item that will be manually fixed.  If you find yourself in need of one of these links, you should be able to acess the page, by removing the /drupal from the URL.
  3. Menues - The first thing on my list after we get moved over, is going through the navigation menu, verifying all of the links, and recreating the ones with broken URLs.  The Campaigns Menu under Content Directory, will also be rebuilt with the new links.
  4. The Active Moves Block will be gone, PLEASE start using the drop down boxes at the top of the site.
  5. Broken Images in game moves.  After the site is moved, KL will import the image database, and those should be repaired in short order.

March 1 - UPDATE

The move should be completed by tomorrow, hopefully today or tonight.  If there is an interruption, please read the site maintenance page that will come up.  I will post the temporary link there that will allow you to access the site while the DNS takes the time it needs to update our information.  This is only a temporary link, and you will be able to go back to our main address shortly.

Alright, our hosting issues have come to a head and we've decided to move sooner, rather than later.

I just wanted to give you a heads up so that, if you came to the site and we weren't here, you'd know what was going on.  We hope to do this the right way, with minimal downtime.  ...but we may have ruffled a few too many feathers, and if that's the case, we don't know how they will handle our account.

Worst case scenario, the site may be down for 36-48 hours.

I'm hoping this will be the end of our troubles and down time.  Thanks so much for your continued patience and support!

If it appears that clicking

If it appears that clicking on home is logging you out, this is not the case.  I've had two users affected like this.  Do a hard refresh (Click on F5, or empty your cache and try again).  This should correct the problem.

Some of the most recent game

Some of the most recent game edits and picture uploads don't seem to have made it across, specifically, My avatar, the two pics of ghost I posted, and Torch's last edit to the TR 'In the house' page.

Thanks.  EDIT:  If this is

Thanks.

EDIT:  If this is an image issue then we're aware of it.

...if this is us not having the most recent restore in place, then they may be gone.

I'll need to check with KL when she gets on.

For now, hold off on re-adding them.

Say,   I've done a hard

Say,

I've done a hard refresh (F5) and cleared cache and cookies, and it's still logging me out when I hit Home... just an FYI..

Okay, IF, it's logging you

Okay,

IF, it's logging you out, then you won't be able to edit a document.  Can you hop into TR and see if it gives you the edit tab?  If it doesn't then I have an issue that I need to figure out.  If it DOES, then you have a browser/cache issue going on.

Lemme know!

Thanks!

It's still doing it... I

It's still doing it... I have to relog in to edit, then I hit HOME and i have to relog in to do anything - of course once I've loggd in it lets me update. I've cleared everything, shut down the browser even, and... i'm at a loss

Alright, sounds like an

Alright, sounds like an US problem and not a YOU problem.  :)  Damn!

Whoelse is having this issue?

Until we get this resolved, please avoid hitting home.  *grin*  Use the search boxes and the top dropdown boxes...to help minimize your frustration.

Darren hit upon a significant issue, our latest restore didn't take completely.  So we're salvaging data from the old site while we still can and pasting it over.  Thanks for the catch, D.

...so this 'home' logging you out issue, might need to wait a bit.  We had a very similar issue before and KL fixed it, so hopefully it'll be the same and she can remember what it was and fix it.

These are all casualties of the move, and we'll get them resolved as soon as we can.

Vic, I see that your new avatar didn't port over, so I updated that for you as well.

D, I added your avatar pic, and your ghost pics.

I also added missing forum posts, and KL is cleaning them up, cuz I made a mess of them.

Thanks nugget!!! I really

Thanks nugget!!! I really appreciate you working this issue... :)

I just checked. This is not

I just checked. This is not the same issue we had on the old site. It may just be a kink in the system that needs a day or two to work itself out.

At the moment I have no idea what might be causing it but I'll see what I can figure out.

This problem seems to have

This problem seems to have just affected content that was added yesterday afternoon/evening. If anyone knows they added something in that time frame please check and make sure it is still there.

China has been going through all the content and porting over everything she sees is missing and has been doing a great job of it but a pair of eyes that know something is supposed to be there and isn't is a big help.

I've gone home, loaded the site in Safari, and I'm not having the logging issue I was having at work... so it might be something to do with ADP's crazy firewall stuffs.

Don't waste bandwidth on this issue folks :)

Thanks for the update! I'm

Thanks for the update! I'm sure KL will appreciate that. She's got a lot on her plate! CATCHING UP - on everything else!

*grin*

FYI to all, the transfer

FYI to all, the transfer will take 5-7 days (or so they told me), so next week some time we'll be back to normal.

I apologize for the problems we've had. In spite of our other CPU load issues I had some run-ins with tech support near the end that made our decision to find a more compatible host all the more appealing. In short, I don't like dealing with butt-heads, so I decided to leave.

And just to make it public, not only does China regularly work on the site, both in adding new content and in tweaking things for her and our betterment, but a couple of other folks do some outstanding work for us out of the kindness of their respective hearts. Game contributions aside, a few folks have really helped us to make this site a reality.

John C. (Imajica) was originally involved simply because China asked him for help. It was only after he got sucked into the site itself that we managed to con him into joining a game.

Bunty has put in some serious effort on the site, as well. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, it was in large part due to him volunteering that we decided to put up our own site after leaving our former game host (I don't want to mention names, but their initials are LCG).

KL has been supporting all of the above efforts and is also working on a custom theme for our site. She was also primarily responsible for moving most (if not all) of our data over during the past few days, encountering a few hiccups along the way.

I wanted to publically acknowledge all of their efforts and this seemed like a good time and place.

So...thanks, folks!

Props to all of you.   Is

Props to all of you.

Is there a clapping icon?

If not you guys deserve one, so instead accept one of these,

lol...

I tried twice to do a credits page, but everyone was like, I don't want credit. Tongue

...so, I'll take all the credit and the cookies! ...or at least the cookies. Smile

But I do deserve some credit for going about 2 months w/o breaking the site. *snicker*

For anyone who would like to

For anyone who would like to correct their embedded image problem before China or I get to it here's how to do it.

Switch to the plain text editor and look for anything that looks like this <img align="right" style="width: 234px; height: 234px;" src="/userfiles/IconsImage.jpeg" />

This is the tag that inserts your image.

What needs to be done to restore your image is to change the section of the link that looks like this src="/userfiles/IconsImage.jpeg" by removing the first / so it looks like this src="userfiles/IconsImage.jpeg"

China or I will be going through and fixing them but I thought I'd throw out how to fix them if anyone was interested.

After spending a good three

After spending a good three hours trying to figure out why the Image Browser won't upload files I've given up for the time being as I can't find a thing wrong with any of the settings. I haven't given up completely just taking a break and coming back to look at it when I'm fresh.

6.10

Another thing to consider is that we upgraded to the newest drupal version.  Yay that!

...and there is a chance that things that worked perfectly before, may have been interrupted by the newest drupal update.  It might not be so much an US issue as it is a new version issue.

We're running into the same issue with the Coherent module that was wroking perfectly on 6.7 or whatever the latest version was.  Sad

I'll be here all day tomorrow, let me know what if anything I can do to help.

Update - March 19

I received an update from Dave on the status of our DNS name transfer. We've known for some time that there was a hitch, in getting it released from our current hosting company. Today there was some progress made.

Yay that. We're hopeful that within the next 24-48 hours, the move will have happened. So for those of you who have bookmarked this addy...don't forget our old one.

It's www.nextgenrpg.com .

Sorry for this agonizing delay. It's not always as easy as they say it'll be. ...and somehow the hard part was easier than the easy part was suppose to be.

Now lets just hope that nothing happens in this final stage. At least Imajica's back from vacation in the event of an emergency. Smile KL would shoot me if I called her while she was on vacation, me thinks!

www.nextgenrpg.com

Wow, that was fast. It seems as though, www.nextgenrpg.com is working again.

The URLs are still a bit wonky...but at least the site isn't going to the site off-line screen! Three cheers for Dave!

If the wonky /nexttho3 URLs don't go away, we'll work on fixing it laters. At least she seems to be working. Smile

Yay that! I can NOT WAIT to unsticky this thread. I'm SO sick of seeing it.

Issues

I'm unstickying this!  I'm so tired of looking at it.

The old URL is working again.  We're still experiencing some linkage prolems that will need to be manually fixed.  Basically that entails me finding all the hard /drupal URLs that I've created throughout the site.  I think most of them are in the FAQ.  If you find some, give me a holler and I'll fix 'em.

We're also experiencing duplicate log ons.  I'm hoping that this will fix itself after the DNS thing is squared away.  If it doesn't KL or Imajica can look into it, when they have time.

Thanks for your patience through this!
