Looking good! I still think
Looking good! I still think it's cheating, having the cast all lined up before you announce the game.
Shame
I do feel bad, I really do.
I had a big long explanation/excuse written up, but I deleted it. I would like to apologize though, as someone pointed out to me, I could have handled this differently/better.
I was just overwhelmed with interest after making my initial announcements, that I was planning to do a Desolation project.
I do understand that to the rest of the community, what I basically did was the following. I'm gonna do this really cool thing, I'm so excited, this is gonna be so cool, oh..but wow, I'm all full up. I just hope that others that were interested in the game, won't hold my poor management of recruitment in so much disregard that they'll forego applying to other Desolation games.
I really am sorry that the positions were filled so quickly. ...and I can honestly say that EVERYONE that showed interest before I reached my ideal number was invited. I didn't tell anyone 'no', I even went one over my initial number when I got the initial rush of interest.
...so there you go. I'm sorry I cheated.
What's wrong with an
What's wrong with an invite-only game?
The way it's been described,
The way it's been described, this wasn't an invite only game, this was a "you got to me first you can play", which is fine I guess, except it's not how any other game has been done.
Invitation Only Games
I don't think that anyone would object to an invitation only game. Feelings might be hurt, things of that nature, but an invitation only game, with little to no fan fare, wouldn't have ruffled anyone's feathers.
That's not what I did though, and that's why I'm apologizing. In retrospect I could have handled things differently.
Personally I find it more distasteful as a GM to make an open casting call, knowing I'm only going to take five people, allow 10 people to invest time and energy into creating a character, and then turn 5 of them away despite their great concepts and efforts. Than it is to not make an open casting call once I know I have interest in the spots, that way nobody wastes their time and it saves me from the distasteful task of telling players no. It was selfish on my part.
I did Conquistadors the same way, sent an email to people I thought might be interested, and as others emailed me (All before I made a call - Cuz I never made a call), I listened to their ideas and told them yes if they fit. It's my no conflict way of casting a game, it just backfired this time.
I'm sorry for any frustrations and disappointments that came from it. ...and there is another game that will be starting at the same time, the exact same genre and system. The only difference will be the GM, style of play and setting - so hopefully the players that wanted to be involved in a post apocolyptic fantasy game will be able to enjoy that one. Not to mention that the possibilities for crossovers exist, there could even be shared history between characters in different games.
Please don't feel bad. I
Please don't feel bad. I really should've let this drop a long time ago. You can't easily get humour across in a line or two of text.
I officially absolve you of all blame, forgive you completely for anything you may or may not have done (including the noodle incident).
So enough already! Let's get these Desolation games going. It's going to rock.
Oh man! You had to bring up
Oh man! You had to bring up the noodle incident!
I still have nightmares about it. Those limp strands dropping noisily onto the wet floor...
Oh.
You're talking about another thing entirely?
Never mind.
Is the City After officially casting?
So enough already! Let's get these Desolation games going. It's going to rock.
I notice that "The City, After" has been in the "Now Casting"section on the main page here for a week or so now (but with a 'Coming Soon' warning attached). I haven't seen any details of game, what it's about (other than the system and a brief paragraph or two), or anything like that. So, my question is, is The City, After actually now casting? Are you looking for submissions? Or do you already have enough PCs?
The City, After
This game will indeed be casting!
Imajica has been feeling under the weather and is catching back up, but I know that he's genuinely excited about his upcoming game. The following details are vague and quite possibly wrong! ...but here's what I know and I'll let Imajica fill you in on the rest.
He's currently in the process of building the settlement that springs up from the desolation of the Apocolypse. He's also working on a journal from the Captain of the City guard. ...the campaign itself will be a city based campaign for the most part and I believe the PCs will somehow be volunteers or roped in to serving on the guard that the settlement cobbles together.
Again, any or all of this may be wrong or incomplete. ...but rest assured, she's a work in progress.
Right now the campaign page is blank, but here's the address - http://www.nextgenrpg.com/content/city-after.
If you want to tack this more easily, just say the word and I'll add you as a lurker to this game so that any activity will show up on your My Games page. Might make things a wee bit easier to follow. That goes for anyone interested, and then you can be upgraded to player status once he's made his selection and it gets off the ground. (We can do this with any of the games upon request)
Expect the first real
Expect the first real information about The City: After to appear soon. And by soon I mean a period of time greater than 1 day and less than the distance between here and Christmas 2009...
Having said that, our illustrious Chairman is right on several levels.
Port
I am going to port many of these comments to the City After page.
Not because they're unwelcome here, but because I think it's very valuable information and wanna share it.
I do plan on deleting all of these comments once the game goes live, so I can have a clean cast page, but I'm in zero hurry to do that, so feel free to continue commenting.
The city is called Khadim but
I'll try to not make a hobbit of it.
*runs and hides*
Oh, there's always
Oh, there's always one.
You're going in the book.
