Amazon Store - Support NextGen RPG
The NextGen RPG Amazon storefront is now open. You can find a simple link to it on the left hand navigation bar, 'Amazon Store'.
Because of our on site memory issues, I wasn't able to fully integrate it into the web site. So this will take you to another page, with a link back to our site. As long as your items get placed into the cart in our store, we will get credit for the purchase.
Using our store to buy your products from Amazon, will give us between 4% and 15% of your purchase, depending on how many orders are placed on any given month. (Example: a $25 purchase would give us a commission between $1-$3.75, depending on our commission earnings that month.)
There is no mark up between buying from the NextGen Store and the official Amazon Store. In addition, special gift certificates, coupons and super saving shipping, is also available when using the NextGen Store.
Proceeds that we receive from the NextGen Amazon store will be used for the site. Some items on our wishlist include, a custom module to help customize the highlighting feature on a user visit basis (approximate cost $200), Upgrading our memory limits with our host, and targeted advertising to help grow our site and attract more quality GMs and Players.
SOooo....If you use Amazon anyway, and aren't already supporting another site, we'd love for you to consider using our link. You can even download music, videos, books and stuff from their kindle store. It's crazy what you can find on Amazon.
We would also love to implement some user recommendation lists. Like Torchwood Faves, Admelior Faves, etc. So if anyone would like to help me out, make a list of items and send it to me, and I'll add them to our store front! All I need are the titles and I can create the lists.

This is very cool.
Could also do recommended reading by campaign. "If you like ICONS, you'll probably also enjoy..." I think Imajica already has a list for SM.

That is a great idea. Darren did the same thing with FC.
...and Imajica got poor Torchy hooked on some band.
oooh. *grin* I could do a Playlist for the Conquistadors, off of the TCQ Soundtrack thread.
Regardless, the idea is, if you can think of a list or want to make one. I'd be excited to post it, and it's just cool!
Hello!
With the higher cost of hosting, I wanted to remind people of other ways to contribute. I'm trying to preserve a relatively advertisement free zone, but depending on how the Amazon Store works out for us, I will likely need to implement banner advertisements.
I'm a huge fan of Amazon, and purchase most of my gifts and entertainment items from them, cuz they're usually the best price. Unfortunately, my own purchases don't qualify since it's my store.
SOoooo....
If any of you wonderful people are planning to shop Amazon anyway, I'd really appreciate you clicking through from our site. The prices are the same (I promise!) and you can still use all the same promotional codes and such. The only difference is that we get a small percentage of that purchase.
I assure you that all funds go directly to maintaining the site. We are currently running on donations from a few generous members, and while we appreciate them, we'd really love to become self sufficient, and give those contributors a break. Spread the pain a bit thinner, so to speak.
So, with that in mind, I've added the sky scraper search advertisement to the left. It will allow you to search without leaving the site. Once you do click through, any purchases made during that visit will be credited to us, and we'd get a small percentage. If it bothers you, using firefox and adding the add blocker plug in, should restore your advertisement free enjoyment of the site.
Thanks for your support!

Soldier Boy is into The Shirelles. Who knew.
It's amazing, now it's all about Torchwood on the Amazon thing. It's obviously scanning the site content and trying to find things that would appeal to this audience.
Kinda creepy.
Sits right on the cool/creepy divide.
*thinks about making a list*
Well, the store is awesome. I just wish I had known about it a couple months ago when I bought a book off Amazon. I'll definitely keep it in mind in the future.
How do we add recommendations? Do we tell you or can anyone add them?
Now in stompy size!
I really haven't done much with the store. It's pretty much just sitting there as a way to link through to Amazon Prime. ...it has a very dynamic interface, and would allow for recommendations on a per user level and all sorts of things. ...I just haven't had the time or energy to mess with it.
I almost with it was a more basic click through, cuz it's kind of confusing now, and looks like you can only use it for buying books, which isn't true. Cuz you can get anything...but the quicker you can click through to the Amazon store the better. Cuz their interface is much more fluid than the one they have on our store front.
If any of the other admins would like to take this project over from me, and actually make it cool - that would be great. :) It's simple behind the scenes mechanics...just no time to mess with it.
you got something against that, punk?
It's a little retro, even for a fossil like you.
I'm sure what he's not saying is the song was written about him, and he dated all of the shirelles at some point in their career, if you can call a drunken weekend full of booze, sex, sex, and more booze dating.
Dating? That's Soldier Boy's idea of formal courtship!

He did once end up with a wife after a weekend like that.

The prosecution rests its case.
I removed the banner when I saw it slowing down the site, likely on Amazon's end. I forgot to put it back until this morning.
If you see this block coming and going it will be for similar reasons. Since it has to pull information from Amazon, it can slow page loads on high traffic days. If you ever need the store link, you can also find it higher in the navigation bar, it just isn't as obvious or easy to search. But it'll work in a pinch.
