This is an official casting call for the Tabula Rasa campaign. This campaign will utilize the HERO system rules.
The campaign premise is this: the players wake from sleeping. They are naked and without any personal items. They have no idea of where they are or how they got there. They don't recognize any of the others, and they don't remember who they themselves are.
Go.
The players come to the game prepared to role play and roll with whatever hand they are dealt, and that's it. The GM (that's me) comes up with everything else including backgrounds, character sheets, body casts, and so on. Not knowing who they are, obviously, the players don't start with access to anything except the body casts.
Motivations, goals, relationships, and where the game takes us is completely up to the players. There will be a plot, and NPCs, and events happening around them which they will not necessarily understand. And how they deal with these things - or don't deal with them - is completely up to the players.
Private messaging becomes important in this game. Things get revealed via player actions. You might see someone for the first time and, while you may not recognize the person, you might get a PM from the GM describing a gut feeling you have, or something else. The GM might also feed you things like snap reactions based on muscle memory in-game that might give you a clue about yourself.
Example: there's a loud bang from somewhere behind the group. One person shrieks and reacts with panic. Another dives to her right and instinctively seeks cover. In both cases, somethng of the player is revealed.
The players have to be flexible and willing to take and run with whatever comes their way. Remember, you won't get a say in your background or your appearance, etc. All you get to define is your player's emerging personality and that can be anything you like - aggressive, passive, sarcastic, helpful, obstinate, good, evil - it's all up to the player, except where a certain player's background would specifically exclude it, and the GM would tell you in a PM if that came up. How does your PC react to being naked in a group of strangers? What does your PC do when confronted by a cockroach? Up to you.
I ran this camapign once with success. I'm thinking we have the right pool of players for this concept to work well. I'm looking for 2-3 players to join the three players already on the cast. Submissions would consist only of a simple framework of that whole developing personality thing. Just tell me what you have in mind to guide your reactions and actions. I may ask for a writing sample, so be prepared to deliver one.
So as to give the private messaging system here a thorough workout, all submissions should be sent to me via PM. That means you'll need to register if you haven't already. If you encounter any technical issues, have any questions about the game or the process, or just want to talk about the game concept, please jump down to the Tabula Rasa forums and shout it there.
Also, something for you TCQ blog page addicts to note: because of the nature of this game, there won't be the opportunity to post background or side stories about your character. Please consider that in any decision to apply.
Twenty-four years ago top secret Project: Superman was initiated The purpose of this project was to create super powered individuals for use in the United States armed forces. For nearly eleven years the project showed little success. Few of the test subjects, consisting of children in California's foster care system and prisoners in federal penitentiaries showed any changes from the genetic manipulation they underwent but those few were enough to keep the project alive.
Then something went wrong. One of the test subjects, a ten year old girl, mutated beyond anything the scientists working on the project had expected and killed the lead scientist, Dr. Reginald Wyatt, and his assistant, Jeffery Eddings. The incident was covered up and the project shut down with an order for all test subjects to be terminated. What the project overseers did not know was Eddings, feeling guilty for what they were doing, had altered the records on some of the younger subjects indicating they had died as a result of the experiments in order to protect them from further experimentation.
Now those children are grown and have begun to develop abilities beyond those of normal humans. Some made the mistake of making their powers known, others have kept their powers secret and are just trying to lead as normal a life as they can. Either way, those behind Project: Superman are now aware of their existence and have vowed to recruit them into the fold and if they refuse to eradicate them as the menace they are.
***
Project: Eradicate is a very low powered supers game using the Hero System rules with the player characters being the grown subjects from Project: Superman.
This is going to be an unusual game in that characters are going to be assigned points based on the concept behind them so it will be unlikely any two characters will be built on the same number of points. The reasoning for the varied number of points is because some concepts, such as a characters with superior senses, can be expensive to build without being very powerful. What will be enforced is all characters will have a very narrow concept with only a few powers to begin with.
As the characters face down each new threat and learn more about their origins, further development can be made in their power's concepts.
Defenses will be minimal and resistant, mental, and power defenses will be restricted to those concepts it makes sense for. Yes, this means a normal toting a gun can hurt the characters if they are not careful.
All characters must be between 20 and 30 years of age and have spent time in the California foster care system. I will leave the reason they were in foster care, whether they were adopted, returned to their natural parents, or raised in the foster care system, and whether or not they remember being in foster care up to the player. None of them know they were the subject of genetic experimentation and if they remember any of it they think it was just routine medical care.
Please include your character's background and a write up of what type of power they have in your submission and send them to me at aliyyah@gmail.com
Submissions close at midnight EST, Feb. 24 and the roster will be posted no later than Feb. 28. The month of March will be used to complete the character write ups with the exception of Mar. 15-22 when I will be on vacation. The game will officially start on Apr. 1.

I did something similar with Conquistadors. :) I had 2-3 months to prepare and told people I was gonna start on September 1. I was so excited by the time it went live...that I still haven't lost my crazed passion for it.

Well everyone, the submission period for Project: Eradicate is now officially closed. I received 13 submissions for the 6 player slots open. The submissions were of such high quality I am seriously thinking of upping the number of players to 8 though I will still have to say no to some characters I really like.
The number and quality of submissions are better than I had dreamed possible and I would like to extend the invitation, in advance, the possibility of future guest shots to those who I do not have room for.
Thanks once again to everyone who submitted and I will be letting everyone know the final line up by Saturday, Feb 28th.

*nods* One thing I've noticed is the high quality of writing in this group. I imagine it would be a tough call to choose between them. Best of luck in your process, and as a heads up, with the caliber of players to choose from, I could understand not getting picked. I'm happy with my submission, but I'd also be happy knowing you got better submissions than my own.

This is the second time I've seen you slight yourself in recent days, Lem.

Knock it off, butt head. You're doing just fine.
Just sayin'.
Yeah!! That's my job!!! I'm the resident insecure writer. This site isn't big enough for the two of us. (toodle doo, wah wah wah) Don't make me come gunning for you boy. (wink)
Well, I finally narrowed it down and I did decide to up the number of players from six to eight. So, in no particular order, here is the line up for Project: Eradicate.
John (last name needed) – bokoso55
Joaquim 'Ghost' Rocha - Darren
Kyle Malcolm Reynard – W. Jason Allen (not sure of Next Gen user name)
Talia Jones – Widow
Jack (last name needed) – NestorDRod
Jake Harker – Hawksmoor
Nathan Marshall – Lem
Jason Cohen – SDTroll
Welcome aboard everyone. In March I'll be working will all of you on finishing up your characters except for the week I'll be on vacation. We'll officially start on April 1st but I have no objections to posting a bit before that if a character is ready.
I'd also like to say thanks to those I was unable to find a place for. The choice was not an easy one by any means and I hope each of you consider making a guest appearance in the future.

Something about that line makes me think you're excited to get this game rolling!
