UPDATED 8/23/09

Will update this as items are listed or completed.

I thought it would be fun to look at our to do list for the first time since 1/29/2009 and see what items were left or forgotten.  Smile

Here's the list, I'm putting the ones not checked off on top, but I think half of these aren't really needed any more.

I guess this means it's time to start adding to our wishlist again.  So much was done that wasn't even on this list.  Great job to KL, Imajica and Bunty.

Oh!  I need to add my flags roll out to this, and Bunty & Imajica's Forum replacement.  ..and should check the test site for all of my other abandoned projects.  :D

---

* Can we turn the Notes into a pop-up function, so that you can see the entry while you edit or read another page?  To help with note taking or copy and pasting?  I don't know if that makes sense, if not I can elaborate. - KL gave instructions for this.  Need to play with them and integrate into the FAQ.
Add a Red ‘Update’ or ‘New’ notifier on the previews that we see on the front page.  An example would be like how the new comments work. - Imajica is working on this.  Is this more work than it's worth? - I think I might be able to do this with flag actions.

* Forum View - Can we get the 1..2..3..4...last, functionality at the top of the forum page as well as at the bottom? - I don't even remember what I was talking about for this one, so not sure if it was possible or not.

* Create Custom NextGenZen theme. - KL is tackling this  - Unless you really want to finish this, I'm so attached to this one, that I really don't know if finishing the other one is necessary.  Your call on that.  Smile

* Improve Subscription Emails – If possible. Include the user name of who edited the last update, and possibly limit the text to what was added. I realize the second part is improbable, BUT…I thought I’d ask, just in case it wasn’t.  - Revision RSS, if only it worked!  Need to keep our eye on that module.

* Age – Something that requires a new user to agree that they’re under or over a certain age.  - we have a lead on an age verification module. - I should put my energies back into this.  Require the Age field and somehow have it Action the Adult role if it's old enough.

* Galleries - have image come before text, or have text wrap around the image. – Example: Christie Danner/TCQ/NPC Gallery - KL can fix this in the new theme - I think I saw a way we may be able to do this somewhere.  Need to see if I can find it again, it was ordering fields in content types, I think.

* Get Media Wiki up and running - KL is working on this - We're keeping our eye on this module.

* Decide if we want a shout box. - I think we decided no on this.  Smile

Bolded Items are Priority and located at top.
New is in Red

* Add the New Forum Post block to all the forum pages - China will do this

* Work out Page permissions for users - If they can MAKE a page, they need to be able to EDIT and DELETE it - I think I can do this too

* Remove 'Notes' from tracking view/page visits.  I found another sneaky way for people to see into other user's notes.  Available in the Tracking Tab.  (I'm such a stalker) - I'd like to bump this up in priority because it is a user privacy issue.  If you look under someone's tracking tab, and click on page visits, from their profile.  IF they've visited a private note,  you can access it from the link provided there.  I was able to do this with a nonadmin account

* Remove Sign-ups Module - Imajica  Thank you - Imjica!

*  Make the GM Forum Private. - Thank you Bunty!

*  Add an Admin Forum and mark private once that is available - China will do this

* Move Site to www.nextgenrpg.com - Redirected!  Thank you Imajica.  Still working on getting rid of the /drupal

* Streamline Navigation Bar. - Bunty & China

* Add Forum identifier to the new/update Forum view - China

* Test all new Forum Containers, and add threads as appropriate

* Make Taxonomy Adult – Give it to users, and test to make sure it filters correctly to hide the content tagged adult, for those w/o privileges  - I added the taxonomy Rating and assigned Adult to it.  ...but not sure how to make a rule that book or blogs with Adult Rating can only allow, certain users.  oooh.  I guess I need to create a role for Adult User...  But then my brain stops working.  This isn't a priority though. - I did this!  me me me me

* Once you’re in a PM, can you cascade it from newest to oldest?  - I'm pretty sure that I know how to do this. I'll look into it.

* PMs – something that notates which messages are New. It seems to be new first, so I guess this isn’t a huge deal. …but as I’m coming up to speed on it, it’s troublesome not knowing for sure.

* PMs. Can we give the ability to delete a message, maybe with a check mark box, from the Main Message View?

* Performance issues?  I don't know if it's my connection or the site, or the drupal.  ...but the last couple of days it's been slow to load pages, only sometimes, and generally with no other traffic on the site.  I guess...make sure the drupal is streamlined as much as possible - to eliminate that as an issue.

Putting it off for now, hard or not available

* When images are uploaded to content through the FCKeditor, you have control over their placement and border, but setting the horizontal and vertical spacing - ie, putting a margin around the image so the text doesn't butt right into it - doesn't seem to work.  - KL will be handling this in the new theme.

* Make the New Comments Block & the Who's new Block collapsable - Collapse module didn't like us.

* Find a way to subtly highlight NEW text in book moves.  So that we can do away with color coding.  If this is possible.  This would be on a user level, and would show new text since the user last logged into the page.  - New Diff Module patch to be uploaded tomorrow.  Keep your fingers crossed for me!

*  Get Revisions to view better.  Right now, it shows in html?  I can NOT find the way to poke around in the Revision Tab functionality.  Seems like it should be in a node module or a book access module, but damned if I can find it. - - New Diff Module patch to be uploaded tomorrow.  Keep your fingers crossed for me!  And KL got rid of some extaneous quote codes

Not Available Yet
* Have PMs email Users when they get a PM.  Or...have it as an option, but default it to email

I messed up somehow and deleted my todo list...not all of it, but about half of it. *drat* I think most of the items that still needed attention are still on here, though.

This can be done but I'd like to research it more before I even attempt to. This looks to be a change in the structure of the page not just a style issue and I don't want to break something by being to hasty.

Sure thing, seriously a low priority. I mean this is something that I would prefer. ...but has little impact on others, just an ease of use thing.

If I had to prioritize the hard things, the images would come first. Preferably getting the avatar to the left of the title. I should try to prioritize things, but for sure the things that affect everyone first.

...yeah... KL had already fixed the image issue when I was complaining about it. ...and droning on about priorities. I think waking up oughtta go on my priority list.

Can we have it in both places?

Yes, definitely -- expandable, hopefully.

I installed the Views module, which is going to get us more flexibility in sorting and displaying info. I used it to create a new block that shows the most recent comments excluding forum posts. Yay! Not sure yet on how to format the results, but it needs some tweaking.

While I was fiddling around with that I also fiddled with some of the other things in the navbar. Sorry if I stepped on anyone's toes there. But it's all a work in progress, right? Tongue

Something for the lower-priority list: improving the text entry field here in the forum. Just gotta get to the bottom of the FCKeditor conflict I reckon.

Those would be your toes. Seriously... I really liked the mock up page you did. That's kind of what we're aiming for. Suggestions are welcome of course, but I'd like you to take the lead on the design aspect. KL might have some input in that area as well. My only criteria is user friendly and something that feels welcoming.

I set up Galleries. They work fine, but the layout is a little messed up...the default layout is based on not using user avatars. See here...

http://nextgenrpg.com/drupal/node/65

I would like to keep the avatars, so I think *someone* should dive into the CSS and pretty it up. Love Maybe something more like the way the galleries were set up at LCG. I thought that worked well.

idea1

Speaking of CSS, what do y'all think of some kind of demarcation between posts on the front page? I was thinking a thin grey line, maybe 80% of the column width and centered.

I really like the idea of a separator between the posts. grey line seems fine to me.

I looked into this and it's not possible without moving the avatars on the front page. It's all controlled by the same identifier in the CSS.

But can't modules have their own subthemes? Maybe that was a Drupal 5 thing. If not, do we live with it as is, or turn off avatars in the galleries? Or is there another option?

That would be cool. Or even just making the margin a little wider would help.

OK, I had to change the PHP for this but it looks like it's working in Firefox 3.0.5. If someone could let me know if it's working in IE 7 it would be great.

I know John is working on

I know John is working on giving us all kinds of nifty ways to find and subscribe to updated content, but I would also like it if when browsing the front page there was a visual indication when a move has been updated. Just a little red updated or the like. I suspect this involves getting data from the Tracker module and pasting some code into the front page CSS...but it's just a guess. :help:

OK, finally got some time to look at some of the stuff on the site.

Cron? Fixed. Drupal module that has all the wondeful features of Cron without the nasty need to edit a crontab file. Kinda cron-lite Smile

Collapsible blocks look like they're going to be a pain in the backside. The collapsiblock module for Drupal 6 plays nicely with *some* themes. But not this one...

Chat Room has been installed and some basic testing done (i.e. I've poked it a bit) but it's not exactly what I was looking for. Where on the site do you want the chatroom to go?

Next step is the "New/Update block" for you lovely people.

Mine's a pint.

Right. A curse on the

Right. A curse on the developers of the Panels module. They're being tardy in getting it up to Drupal 6 speed. Until then, there's a block at the top of your front page that shows the 5 most recent updates to books. Once Panels has been updated to D6 and is stable, I'll pop that block into a panel just to keep it obviously separate from the rest of the site.

Must upload an avatar - I feel strange without one here. Hang on...

Diaries for users to create notes in. OK. Edited the "My Account" menu item to read "Control Panel" as per one of the suggestions above. Currently there's only 2 links under there - one for creating a diary entry (basically a new content type that only the user who created it can view/edit - and admins, of course) and a view called "My Diary" that lists all the user's diary entries, sorted by title. It's a start...

Right. Job 1 of the day.

Right. Job 1 of the day. Installed the Subscriptions module. Now wherever you see the little RSS logo at the bottom of a page it will let you subscribe to the content you see on the page - specific taxonomy terms (e.g. Nemesis) can be subscribed to individually.

Moving on...

Differences between revisions being highlighted. This is enabled, it's just not that simple to get to. Go to a page/book/wherever, click on "Revisions" then "Diff" lets you select 2 versions of the text to get a highlighted comparison of them. So if we give users the permission to view revisions but not revert to previous revisions and explain it rather more fully in the FAQ...? It'd do as a start until something a little more elegant can be worked out.

Moving on...

Diary as a popup. Not sure how this would work but there's always the option of opening the diary in a separate browser tab and flicking between them - or a separate browser window if you'd rather. If you've got a nice Ubuntu 3D desktop, you could have them on different faces of the cube!

Moving on...

Subscribing to private messages. Not possible at the moment. They've only just started converting Subscriptions to Drupal 6 and the full integration with Privatemsg isn't operational. Watch this space...

Moving on...

Quick question... Any particular reason the FCKEditor has been disabled for Comments? Might make posting to the forums a bit easier...

Excellent! I'll start playing with this and get familiar with the how to of it.

I'll look at this again, it used to be an eyesore, but admittedly, our editor was a mess at the time. Not sure if the trade off between the economy of an extra tab click is a trade off for color coding or not. I'll mess around and figure it out. Personally, I always look at the revision tab anyway, it's just a stalker habit of mine. http://www.nextgenrpg.com/drupal/modules/smileys/packs/Roving/evil.png [/quote]

That's fine, that's the method that we're used to. I was just thinking how 'oh so cool' it would be, if a hovering frame or something was available. Smile ...but I'm not greedy.

I think this is only the case for the Admin accounts, but I may be wrong about that. I couldn't agree more, it's a pain to use a separate entry method for comments and forum than I do with the main blog and book pages. I'll log in with my non admin account and check it out.

Thanks for the update, these are very helpful.

I think the real issue is: can users receive an email notifying them that they have a PM here? KL is looking into using the Trigger module for this.

Yes, but not a terribly good one. Big smile The editor conflicts with the smilies, and I figured it was better to focus on bigger problems. I for one would like to get the editor working on the forum eventually (with one of the simpler toolbars.)

Persoanlly, I love it.  ...but I totally understand how techy types could prefer the plain text box.

I think the real issue is: can users receive an email notifying them that they have a PM here? KL is looking into using the Trigger module for this.

Couldn't find a way to make it work, sorry.

If triggers won't do it, there might be a way to get Rules to do it. I'll take a look just now. Right. That didn't take long. Looks like it should work but the PrivateMsg module needs upgrading to the current development version - seems to be implemented in that... Do one of you lot want to do that just now or shall I do that tomorrow afternoon (morning for you!)

The "Active forum topics" block at the top of the forum main page - does that have enough information or does it need more?

Not my area, but Bunty might get her done before morning.  I'm sure he'll post here if he does.

I'd be wary of doing that when we've got specific blocks that appear on specific pages (such as the "Active Forum Topics" one on this page) as these are settings that are maintained on a per-theme basis. If you've got the right theme, one theme for the users and one for the site administration should be all you need. Otherwise it turns into an admin nightmare!

There's the option of using the Color module to allow users to choose the colours of their site assuming the css supports it - it ties in nicely with the Zen theme engine if memory serves.

As far as I can tell, the ability to change themes is one set by enabling more than one theme in the settings/themes page. You then switch themes (as an authenticated user) through the "Edit" link on your profile page - My Tools/Control Panel as it is here. Looking at mine, I can switch between barroness and nextgenzen right now...

Right now non-admin acocunts aren't letting you switch between themes. I think China wanted to let everyone chime in on the new theme and whether it works for them and if they have any suggestions. The plan would be to disable all themes other than nextgenzen once it was ready to go.

Enabling more than one theme is a tempory meassure to allow me to test the new theme with minimal impact on users.

John, is this set up to your satisfaction? Can I start testing and tweaking? :Big smile:

I'm also against multiple themes. Branding wise, it's best to have one look. Not to mention it's more work.

* PMs. Can we give the ability to delete a message, maybe with a check mark box, from the Main Message View?
This would be a good time to hear if anyone has any other issue or suggestions with the PMs. I just noticed that the main view doesn't tell you which messages are new. They should be highlighted in some way, perhaps with their titles in bold and/or with a star next to them.

No one can post without registering, so there's that. If it becomes a problem we could add captchas to the registration process.

BTW, is the + sign configurable? Can we use, say, an icon instead?

I'll upgrade the module today, and look into Rules.

I don't what China was thinking, but I was imagining a list of n most recent posts, formatted to mesh with the rest of the forum. Kind of like what SMF can do. Perhaps I'll try to cobble something together in Views to give y'all the idea. I should be working on the wiki but I'm putting it off. Crazy

I"m not well today.  I'm sorry...but my computing centers in my brain don't seem to be firing right.

As far as theme...  I agree that we only want one.  But KL is totally reading my mind in her reply, so I won't try to repeat it and mess it up.

you guys rock.  I'll check in today but won't likely mess with the site, I'd mess something up in my state.  Sad

Yes, this is configurable in the theme.

You should be good to go on this one.

I knocked up a couple of views last night (before I spotted the "Active Forum Topics" one. One that shows the most recent 5 forum topics, the other that showed the most recent 5 forum comments (i.e. replies to topics). Once Panels hits a fairly stable release, these could sit side-by-side in a little block at the top of the main forum page. Until then, they could sit one on top of the other. Take a look at them in the list of views. Might do what you want...

Sorry, not been able to get much done today other than work on the code for the dice roller. Should be able to crack on on Monday...

D'oh! Captain Unobservant here didn't notice that and rolled his own. Oh well, it's good to practice with Views. Alas, I can't quite build it the way I want on Views alone - the forum theme is also involved. Still, good enough for now?

I should be able to get them to sit side by side with CSS.

I installed the latest dev

I installed the latest dev version of PrivateMsg. It it supposed to integrate with Subscriptions but I can't find any documentation on this. Trying to digest how Rules work.

That'd be working now. Just tick the "abc" button next to teaser in the middle menu bar. NB. Doesn't work in the latest Opera (9.63). This is a known bug and the Powers That Be are looking into it.  Config files for fckeditor edited according to instructions here: http://docs.fckeditor.net/FCKeditor_2.x/Developers_Guide/Configuration/Spell_Checker

Remedied.  Enabled the view "Tracker" and excluded diary entries in the filters.

I've created a new view - frontpage1 - based on the existing frontpage. It's got the red "new" label next to new content. Don't know about updated. It's not perfect - not showing the taxonomy or the neat little link below the title about submission time/date. And it's not styled anywhere near as nice as the current frontpage. But it's a start.

It's grayed out...I can see the ABC button, but I can't click on it.

What am I doing wrong?
