Has anyone been able to look at the issue with what is preventing emails from nextGen from passing through certain ISP's?

Yes

We're pretty sure that we remedied that problem, by adding the vps.nextgenrpg.com to our domain list.

Sounds like that isn't the case.  So, you still aren't getting your subscriptions....

China, I'm not sure I added the entry everywhere it's supposed to be. I had to use the console and I might have missed an entry.

Dashboard

I'm pretty sure that this is the only link where you need to add it.

https://www.vps.net/domains/15983   (using our user name and password for the dashboard / manage dns/ click on nextgen)

...and I see that it's registering that domain.  So, even if that isn't where you entered it, it picked it up from there.

The only other thought i had is that maybe we need to create the subdomain vps.nextgen, but when I tried to do that in the CPanel when we first moved, it wouldn't allow me to create a name for a subdomain that was the same as the server name.

I will be happy to call support with this, to check to make sure that we entered it in all the places necessary.  ...but it seems like it took from looking at that link above.

Is it possible that Paragon's server, only checks once a week or once a month and it just hasn't cleared their security buffers?

All the configurations look

All the configurations look correct on our end now so if something still isn't right I don't know what I'm missing. Are you still getting the emails about the IP address, China? If not that's not the problem and we may have to contact Paragon's ISP to find out what the exact problem is.

No, it wouldn't be a subdomain. From what Paragon said his ISP told him it's because the IP address isn't pointing to where his ISP expects it to point. I was pretty sure I had fixed this with what I did and checking the link you provided it looks like what I did took. If there are still problems I'm not sure what could be causing it since everything on our end seems to be pointing where it should now.

Error Emails

KL,

Now that you mention it...!  *drum roll*

I have NOT been receiving any more error messages from our server.

Paragon, I'm very hopeful that this will soon be remedied.  I think that our changes just need to have some time to be accepted by your ISP.

I'm very very sorry that this continues to be a problem for you, but thanks to your help, we've implemented the domain changes that were necessary for some ISPs.  ...I'm really hoping that it's just a matter of time before your ISP catches up.

If you could perhaps email them again and explain that we've 'claimed' to make the necessary changes, and ask them to check again.  That might be helpful.  That way, if we're still failing something, we can try and fix that as well.

I do know that it can take several days for some DNS changes to propagate through the net...so I'm hoping it's something that time will work out.  But if not, we might have to open a dialogue with you isp.

Here is the reply to my

Here is the reply to my follow-up email:

I've checked our logs, and as of this am, they're still failing the sender-verify check. They may need to check with their host, or their staff to double-check their data, as per Melissa's previous reply. Once they make the necessary corrections, you should start being able to receive their messages.

Sheesh, I go away on

Sheesh, I go away on paternity leave and the site falls apart.

Right.  Everyone ready?

I think I've fixed the problem.  There was an extra "#" in the site's settings file.  I sent a test PM to myself earlier today and received an email saying it was there.

Now this needs testing... I'm going to subscribe to this thread, see if I get some notifications when you fine people reply and tell me it's still not working Wink

Did you make the change in a Drupal settings file or the server settings file? The problem isn't in Drupal as some people are getting the emails with no problem.

The problem is in the settings for the server.

Made the change in the Drupal settings file - it's a switch in there that can cause problems if it's not switched on.  It might work, it might not.  Haven't had a chance to explore the server in detail but a quick spin round the command line showed everything in the right place.

I heard from support at the hosting company for rpg-fusion, and here is their response.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting support.

It appears that nexttho3@vps.nextgenrpg.com is failing our Sender Verification check. This ensure that the email address sending to our server, is real and accepting incoming connections. The mail server by default will check the senders email address and send a callback to the sending server to check and see if the users email address actually exists. In this case the senders email server was not verifying the email address actually exists and so the email was being rejected.

The email administrators located at vps.nextgenrpg.com will need to ensure that the email server/address are configured correctly.

I heard from from support at my domain host for the rpg-fusion domain. Here is their reply:

This is what Paragon's ISP told him. We did have a problem with vps.nextgenrpg.com pointing to the wrong IP number and I fixed that. I haven't had the chance to look into it much further but it's definitely a setting for the server not Drupal.

I did some checking at the help section for our host and someone was having a similar problem with email. They had to have the host fix the reverse DNS for the site as our host doesn't allow the reverse DNS to be changed by their clients. I'm not certain this is the case here but I planned to get with China when she got back and have her talk to our host about it.

If it was the base path

If it was the base path switch, I'm the one who turned it off. We were having some issues with taxonomy autocomplete and it was the only suggested fix on the Drupal site that worked.

Support Ticket

We can absolutely open a ticket from the VPS.net dashboard.  I'd be happy to do that.

I just need to know what to say that I don't sound stupid.  *grin*  Or one of you guys can.  It's a bit of a pain, but you can check the replies on the dashboard, and they tend to be pretty quick.

No, cookie domain.  It would've caused hell if we wanted to switch editor with that one turned off and I've heard rumours of it solving all manner of strange problems.  Apparently not this one, though.

Let me know if there is anything specific you need from the ISP where this is happening other than what they have already provided.  don't know if there is more information that can help.

I've made an additional change in our server settings. If you're still not getting emails after today let us know.

This is not being an easy problem to figure out since you're the only one it seems to be effecting. We're not trying to ignore you just having trouble figuring it out.

Nah, I didn't think anyone was ignoring the issue. It's that 48-72 hour follow-ups for me have become such a habit from work, it usually spills over to RL.

Then this is most likely something we'll have to get with our provider about.

Ticket

I'll open a ticket tomorrow.

Paragon, if you have another email that you check on a regular basis, it might be a good idea to switch it in our system until this is resolved.

A lot of time has gone into this, and we're no closer to resolving it.  So, unless it's something that our host can fix, we're at a dead end.  If it were affecting more members than one, we'd possibly have more angles to work, but as it is...  all of our efforts have (and by our I mean KL and Imajica) not come to a resolution.

My apologies, but as you know, not all issues have an easy and fixable solution.

OK, I am still not receiving

OK, I am still not receiving emails, even with my new address. I checked the spam folder at AT&T and nada. I should have received one by now. I am showing three subscriptions, so how do I check to make sure I have the proper subscriptions, in case you guys have fixed the original problem and subscription setup is now the only issue?

Paragon, this problem is

Paragon, this problem is definitely a problem on the provider end as I'm pretty sure we use their email servers. China could answer this better than myself, if she never had to mess with configuring email than we use our provider's servers. In that case we will have to bring it to the attention of our provider and have them work it out with yours.

I have confirmed our emails are going out and have even subscribed to things just to see for myself if there was a problem. I received the email with no problem.

I think you are right that it

I think you are right that it is more than subscriptions. BTW, I wasn't suggesting their was something wrong with the subscriptions globally here at NG, I was referring to the subscriptions on my account here.

I checked to make sure PM email notifications was on, then sent myself a PM. I have no idea why AT&T is not sending them through. I never had problems with this before on either my ISP (AT&T)or the hosting company for rpgF.

Thanks for all the checking and such. I don't expect you to expend too much more on it since it is only me and not a global issue.
