Medical Tech

Hey Thrak,

What level of medical technology will MD be using? I'm thinking Vargr Hyena MD...

(laughs maniacally) <-- cause he cna't help it

In the campaign universe,

In the campaign universe, tech levels vary widely from system to system.  On some planets you have Civil War style hospitals where a broken toe might result in amputation.  In the adjoining system you could have an Imperial Naval base where the bone and flesh of that broken toe can be regenerated good as new in a matter of a day or less if high-end drugs are available.

So I guess just consider your character's background.  Was he the medic for an important Vargr location/person?  That kind of background would have more high-tech medical knowledge than a Vargr who happened to know the most first aid on a pirate vessel.

Player Helper #1

This is late, sorry - but I want to post these to each campaign as a way to get important information out.
----

This is just some info to help our first time posters.

Please feel free to ask questions as you have them, it's really a simple process, but everything takes some getting used to.  Here is the link to the How to Play section of the FAQ, however...it's more work to read that, in my opinion, than it is to figure it out with a few basic pointers.  Smile

Once Thrak posts the new game move, you should be able to see it in your My Games Page.  It will only show up there if there has been something new updated to it since the last time you visited.

  • Locate the Edit tab, which will be above the Title of the game move.
  • Once you're in the edit screen, locate where in the document that you'd like to add your text.
  • Add your text.
  • And then Save the document.  You are welcome to preview it first, but if you do, please remember to save it after, otherwise your adds will be lost.

That's it.  When you return to the site, keep an eye on your My Games page to see if there are updates.  If you would like email reminders when the page is updated, just click on the word 'Subscribe' at the bottom of any game move.

If you don't see an Edit tab, and you're sure that you are logged in, please post here or in the game comments section.  Because that means that I didn't assign your player privileges correctly.

About Images

I'll use this thread as a place to include helpful information as things come up.  This is information on how to upload an image to your Game's Gallery and then insert it into a forum post, Blog Entry or Game Move.  More information of this nature can be found in the FAQ...but it isn't the easiest thing to navigate.

How do I upload a picture to my Games Gallery?

  1. Locate the Create Content link, in the left hand Navigation Column, under My Tools
  2. Click on Image & this will open your image entry screen
  3. Required:  Title of your image
  4. Click on the Image Gallery drop down box and select the gallery most suited for your image.
  5. Click on the Story drop down box and select the game that the piece is for.
  6. Unless your image is adult in nature, you do not need to mess with Rating.
  7. Select Browse in the Image Field to Locate the image that you would like to upload.
  8. Body - This is where you add any notes or body cast information that you would like to share about your image.
  9. Click Save

How do I upload a picture into a game move or blog?

  1. Locate and open the blog or game move that you want to insert your image into
  2. Click on where you want the image to be inserted
  3. Click the Mountain Icon or the Image Assist Icon in the text editor - it's located on the second row of buttons, to the right of the Anchor.  Try them both until you find which one feels easier for you.
  4. Mountain Icon
    1. Click on the Browse Server button in the first line
    2. If you recently uploaded your image into a game gallery, you should see it on the first screen.
    3. If you would like to search, The Image Assist Upload is a better choice.
    4. Select your image and choose the size you would like to insert (Thumbnail, Preview or Original)
    5. Once you're back to the main screen, select the align box (very bottom), and choose left or right, depending on which way you want the text to wrap around your image
    6. Click the okay button
    7. Once you're back in the game move, click on the image and drag it to size it correctly
  5. Image Assist
    1. This method will automatically take you to the screen of your uploaded Gallery Images (If the picture you want wasn't uploaded by you, you will need to find it in the gallery)
    2. Cycle through them by page or Browse Images by Gallery at the top.
    3. Select the image you want to insert into your game move or blog
    4. Select the size that you want to insert.
    5. Chose alignment for text wrapping
    6. Click Insert
    7. If the image did NOT wrap correctly, which is a common issue, right click on the image and select Image Properties.
    8. Select the align box (very bottom), and choose left or right, depending on which way you want the text to wrap around your image
    9. Click the okay button
    10. Once you're back in the game move, click on the image and drag it to size it correctly

3 Quick Things

1.  If you need any help with uploading an Avatar, here is a link to directions.  They aren't required but are helpful as quick identifiers, and kind of jazz up the front page when you post blog pieces.

2.  For those that have Player Privileges, you can start using your My Games page, located in the left hand Nav Column under My Tools.  It'll be a quick way to see if you have new game moves, images or forum posts.  For more information on this page, click here.

3.  If you want Adult privileges to the site, you will need to edit your birthday in your Control panel, and send me a PM.  If you included your birth date at the time of registration, then it's already been granted.  This is a very minor thing, but if I don't ask people when new games are formed, it can get overlooked.

GM Info

1.  Be sure to assign your game moves to the Maneuver Drive book, under book outline.  This will allow your players and lurkers a way to cycle through your story.  If things get out of order, contact an admin to learn how to add weight to your pieces, or tell them how you want them ordered.

2.  Also, choose MD at the top under Story, that is the identifier that will drop it into your player's new games queue. This is also what will allow players to access your game pages.  If you need any help, grab an admin or send them a PM.

3.  IF at any point you or your players don't see an edit tab in your game related pages, it's likely an error on our end with granting player privileges.  Contact an admin and we'll get it fixed for you.  (Do recheck for #2 first.)

A note on a difference

A note on a difference between the two methods of inserting images handle wrapping text. The Image Assist method will *only* move the image to the location you choose, it does not add the necessary HTML code to wrap text, so if you want the text wrapped around the picture you *will* have to right click on it afterward.

The Mountain Icon inserts the proper HTML for the text to wrap correctly but is a pain to find the image you want.

Both methods have their advantages and weaknesses so it really is a matter of preference but these are the only major differences I can think of.

So true

I need to add the left click for image properties to that FAQ bit on images.

In the interests of keeping

In the interests of keeping the game running smoothly I'm going to put Aurora Valence on the shelf and bring in a new player and character as a replacement.  I've sent Ohnanka PMs and haven't received a response, but should he be able to return to us I'll figure out how or when to work he and Aurora back into the game.

I've already got somebody working on a replacement character and as soon as everything is ship-shape I'll make a general introduction.  The stars happen to be aligning at just the right time and this will be the perfect time to make the replacement in-game.  Until such time as is no longer necessary I'll be NPC-ing Aurora.

Thanks, and keep up the great play!

NO! (Its Ohnanka)

I've been trying to log on all this week!  Finally gfot internet back, but my log-in wont work!  Just set up this temporary account to communicate with you guys.

Woot!

Happy dancin' for Onk!

I have fixed your old account.  I'm really sorry for the problem.  I'm guessing you have a gmail account with an extra '.' in it, in front of the '.gmail' part.

If you're still having issues, let me know right away.

I'm super duper sorry about that.

...and welcome back!  Trust me when I say that you've been most heartily missed.  :)

I'd like to extend my apologies to Thrak as well, I didn't realize the new access rule affected any of your players.

This was not the same issue

This was not the same issue but has been fixed.

No Problemo

Well, Onanka being back is certainly good news, no doubt about it.  The timing being what it is, this is a very fluid place in the campaign so making changes is easy.  My preference is to keep both Ohnanka and my new player, if possible.  I'll work this out via PM and keep everyone informed.

Woot!

Yay for new blood!

Yup, 'Nick of Time'

Yup, 'Nick of Time' adequately sums it up. Lol.   Look forward to playing with someone else too Smile

Okay, we're about at the

Okay, we're about at the close of the first major story arc.  That means several things:

1.  Transition to the next major story arc: I'm going to use China's example from the Conquistador's campaign and establish a transitional period of about two months between arcs.  In this case, the time will have been spent aboard the Nostromo training for your new roles as the operational members of Task Force 272.

A lot can take place during this time period.  There's the training, of course, but there's also a lot of discovery and interaction that can go on.  There's a lot of opportunity for joint posts and solo pieces, so if you're so inclined then by all means let me know.  I've introduced several recurring NPCs at this point: Lt. Ring, Ensign Sliwa, Major Chance, Captain Batiatus, and Doctor Lekzs.  The Nostromo is a giant ship.  If you have questions, let me know.

2.  Introduction of a new character: We'll be bringing in our new player with the new story arc.  Yay!

3.  Experience award: everyone will exit the transitional period with the following 12-point task force package:

3 Anonymity
1 KS: The Ancients 8-
2 KS: TF272 Field Agent Protocols 11-
2 PS: TF272 Field Agent 11-
3 Teamwork 11-
1 WF: Handguns

Nothing stacks with what you already have on your sheet.  In those instances, just leave it off.  Everyone also gets 5 additional experience points to spend or bank as they please.  My recommendation is to think about what your charcater might want to learn during the training period that isn't covered in the package.  You could even write up a page about it.

I've got to settle how I'm going to open the new arc, debut the new player, etc., and we still have to wrap B&S 11 - so we've got plenty of time to work on JPs or solo pieces, figure out point spending, and so on.  This would also be a good point to offer feedback on the campaign, privately via PM or over in the safe zone thread.  I love hearing from my players about what they like, don't like, or want to see more of in my games.

Well, I haven't heard from

Well, I haven't heard from anybody regarding JPs or solo pieces, and I'm about ready to start writing up the first page for the new chapter.  Not exactly the momentum and excitement level I was hoping for, but hey.  Good things are in store for the new task force.  I figure to have to opening page done and published by Wednesday, earlier if I find some time to match with my plot idea.

Let me know if you have any xp expenditure ideas or plans.

Sorry...

Been heavy going recently, pipe burst above us, half the house flooded and the Landlord has no Insurance so their insurance wont pay up... anyway I totally forgot to check back in on here, what comes from having to use a different browser for Next Gen, I guess.

How about a couple of generic threads for the journey?  People might respond to a casual canteen scene, or a VR training session?  Y'know, just some non-plot progressive scenes that we could use for more character interaction to avoid weighing down the main thread.

Not sure about XP, might save it, or else spend it 'brushing up' on her old special ops basic language training.  Ie, learning a bit of Zhodani or Sword-worlder.

That's a fine idea.  I have no plans, however.  Either run it as a JP with your fellow players, or let me know which NPCs you want to interact with and I'll help you set it up.

I'm up for something like

I'm up for something like that, either as a JP or as a "group" thing. We could just start a JP thread, invite everyone on the list anyway, and whoever wants to join in, can. Maybe something earlier in the break, like a month or so after we start training, and place it either in the cafeteria, a lounge area or whatever. Just a suggestion...if you have something else in mind, holler. But I do like the idea.

Sounds good

Yeah, lets get it started.  I forsee good banter between Aurora and Gunnar at least, even if no one else picks up the thread!

It'll probably put me in the frame of mind to write the last part of her background story, as well.

Thrak -
I also wouldn't mind finding more about Ensign Silwa in R&R.  Seems a shame to let NPC's go un-fleshed out.  Also Aurora would doubtless be pestering her for information on her Aunt's ship, and she's curious about the bet the woman made!

Aren't Keese and Teagan doing some sort of medical check-up/research sessions together?

The NPCs I've introduced

The NPCs I've introduced willbe fleshed out over time, for sure.  If you want to see them in this thread you're planning, just let me know and I'll write them in.

I checked it Thrak, Ohnanka hasn't published it yet. This was created as a blog entry and not a JP so I don't want to give anyone access to it without Ohnanka's say so. If it's something you were both supposed to be working on than it needs to be a JP and not a blog entry.

No, that's fine.  Carry on.

No, that's fine.  Carry on.

Aye, preliminary outline for a final major background piece.  Srill vagfue rambling outline.  Probably write a bit tomorrow.  If I dont party too hard saturday night, I'll finish it Sunday.  Shall I start the incidental thread too?  I thought maybe Aurora might be driven out of her mind with boredom at some point, find Ensign Silwa and ask what they do for fun on the Nostromo.   Or how about Zero-G Kickboxing or something? hehe,
Right. bed. drunk. Zzzzz....

hmmm....

and some how, I don't know how, I managed to delete that Blog entry last night....

Doesn't seem to be saving my entries at all, maybe because I didn't publish them?  I dunno, it worked doing things in stages before...
Anyway, Its alright, all I'd written was a basic outline of plot ideas, started working on it, off-line last night, just to be on the safe side Wink

Are either of these the ones

Are either of these the ones that you're looking for?

http://www.nextgenrpg.com/content/md/hope

http://www.nextgenrpg.com/content/md/hope-0

These were both in the admin content directory as unpublished.  One of the main things about unpublished docs is that they're an absolute bear to find again.  You can use the JP content type, even for an individual piece if you ever would like to.  Just assign JP to the story taxonomy instead of MD when you enter in the stuff.  That will keep it from showing up in your fellow players game queue until you're ready.  And you won't assign other editors to it, and it makes it private just to you.

Hopefully one of those pieces above is your lost work.  If it isn't, I'm really sorry about your troubles.  I know how irritating it can be to lose stuffs!

If you wanna try the JP thing, there are more detailed directions in the FAQ, but you could likely figure it out on your own since you're pretty familiar with things around here.

Ohnanka asked for this, but I

Ohnanka asked for this, but I figure it couldn't hurt to make sure everyone had access to it:

The Nostromo is very big, on the order of 200,000 displacement tons.  That's like two Nimitz-class aircraft carriers put together.  There are bigger ships in the Imperial fleet, but not many.  Then there's the 500,000-ton Tigress-class battleships...

Take a look at this chart for a good idea as to how relatively sized all the ships are when I talk about displacement tonnage.

There are 26 decks.  The ship is approx. 500m x 130m.  The ship's company is 2,800, plus an air wing of 200, plus 300 Imperial Marines, plus a science staff of 50, plus you five.

After you boarded, Nostromo jumped into the Persephone system, spent one day in transit to a scout waystation in orbit around one of the two gas giants where she made port for one day before she spent another half a day in transit to the main world starport, where she made port for three days.  After refuelling and taking on supplies, she departed port and spent another two days making a roundabout  course for the outgoing jump point during which flight deck drills were conducted.  Then she made jump for Lunion, the sector capital.  There's a sizeable Imperial Navy base in the Lunion system where Nostromo spent two weeks undergoing refit and maintenence during which time a fairly intensive stretch of your ops training took place at facilities on the base.

Hey folks.  If it seems like

Hey folks.  If it seems like Major Chance is taking more of a lead in the current scenario, that's by design.  Normally I have the NPCs hang back and let the PCs shine, but given that Onk is sick and Dave has connectivity issues, I thought a little prodding by the Major was in the interests of moving the story along.

That is all.

I'm back!

Hey, I'm back, well, done with my LARP and my Dad isn't dying, woo!  He has also realised he can't keep drinking like a fucking idiot, which is good!
Anyway, I've replied and should habve more time once things are going again, though I gather Thrak has been on his annual summer vacation :)
