Name of the Wind, Book one of the King Killer Saga - Patrick Rothfuss

Has any one read this?
It's an interesting mix of 3rd and 1st person perspective, as a legendary figure tells the truth behind the legends surrounding him.
It's got most of the classic fantasy tropes, but spun in an interesting and often quite humorous way. Definitely a must read if you haven't yet. I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.

Loved it. Absolutely loved it. I'd go at least 4-and-a-half stars, myself.
Haven't read a REALLY good fantasy in a while, but I'm hopeful that I'll stumble upon something soon. Been reading fiction and supernatural stuff lately, but I'm dying for a really good fantasy book.

The Steel Remains... quite good - sci fi author stretching his wings in the fantasy genre...

Picked it up, haven't read it yet. The first few pages seemed okay, but a tad anachronistic with the dialogue, if you ask me, which is a tad off-putting. I have like a couple of his sci-fi books, so I'll give it another shot.
The Crown of Stars series by Kate Elliot is a very good read, however, I didn't particularly like the way she wrapped up the story.
I am also very fond of the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. It's one weakness, imo, is that he seems to have followed the Robert Jordan philosophy of writing, never end the story. (sigh)
And of course, though I'm not sure it qualifies as Fantasy, is the Dark Tower series by Stephen King. :)
Spiffy... it's a little... uh... gay in parts (literally) but I like how completely screwed up the main character is. The Recluce novels are also on my constant re-reading list.

I've even build an Order Mage and a Chaos Mage for champions ... heh.. .them boys be PRICEY
While i'm thinking about it:

AWESOME series of books...
Also, below is the first in what's going to be a pretty good series:

That's my absolute favorite of all time. Makes me sniffle wanting to read. ...I love all the dynamic elements he brought in. Things like Mord Sith, and all that rot. ...and those eyes, and a wee bit of romance. Yummy that.

I get my Kindle 2 on Friday - this will be the first book I buy for it... thanks for the recommend
The Mord-sith were quite interesting, Cara being one of my favorites. :)
Have you been watching the Legend of the Seeker TV show?
It's based loosely on the series. I keep finding myself saying, well THAT never happened... ;)
Another good read if you're up for a good fantasy mix with a strong romance at its core is the Dragon Prince, and Dragon Token Series from Melanie Rawn. The Dragon Prince deals with the father and mother, and the raising of kingdom, the Dragon Token series deals with the rise to power of the son, and the defense and near destruction of said kingdom.
Very good fantasy and I'd love to build a character around their "Sun Runners'.
The Recluce books were awesome, and an even better read when you read them in chronological order rather than published. :)
I have/had all of the 'Order' side, but unfortunately only have the first book dealing with the Chaos side. (The White Order)
While ultimately stronger in the long run, the Order Mages seem very hard to 'quantify', unless you start making them buffers and healers (to use MMO terminology.) The Chaos Mages are straight energy projectors.
No problem. :) Just figured I'd start some conversations here, cause the forum was empty
and that was the last book I read.
AWESOME series of books...
My current favorite series. The characters are delightfully flawed and the story is simply awesome.
Come to think of it, Vic, you remind me of the midget.
I recommend this strongly to any fan of the fantasy genre.

Really? Damn... that's probably the nicest compliment i've been given in like, a year!!!
And I'm reading it now... so far, I'm liking it :)
