New Spell Checker Available
I have exciting news to report!
We have a new spell checker available in the WYSIWYG editor. This is in addition to the red underline that Firefox users get when a word is misspelled.
To access this feature follow these instructions next time that you're editing a document.
- Click on the ABC button with the checkmark, it's on the top row, to the right of the clipboard with the blue 'W'
- Select Enable SCAYT
- Misspelled words will be underlined in red
- Right click on a misspelled word and select the correct spelling
- Please note that you will see 'add word' and 'ignore word' options at the very bottom
This is new, so I'm sure we'll be learning as we go. For now, I'm not sure if the ignore and add word functions are file specific or if they will carry over from file to file with the user account.
We still have our Firefox spell checker enabled as well, so if you right click on an underlined word, and there is no selection of words - then it's the FF Spell checker that noted a misspelled word, but SCAYT recognized it as a correct spelling. I've only seen this once, but I wanted to bring it up as a known conflict.
I also noted a script error in a particularly large file with a LOT of dialect/misspelled words. ...so, there is a chance that big files with a lot of misspelled words, might give the spell checker some troubles.
Let me know if you see additional problems!
Hope you guys like it. :)

Hrmm.. clicking the ABC button does nothing for me... don't get any options that pop up..
*cries*
I had the same issue this weekend...and then it magically started working for me.
KL thinks the Cache had something to do with it. :)
Can you try clearing your cache and tell me if it helps the issue? If not, I'll clear the global cache at the site.
Thanks for chiming in!

Yup, that was the first thing I did was clear the cache... didn't fix it.

What browser are you using?
I'm gonna empty the global cache. Take a look next time you're in a file.

Seems to work at home no problemo... I'll try with FireFox at work again tomorrow, as I still cant access the site with IE...
curious and curiouser.
Thanks for the update.
Still no little dropdown next to the ABC(check) icon that will allow me to enable the new spellchecker in FireFox at the office...

Beezare indeed. This is over my head and I'm almost wondering if it's related to the security at your workplace. I know that SCAYT doesn't require anything on our server. So that means, it's either in the module completely OR that it's pulling it from some SCAYT server. Regrettably I have no idea.
I'll ask Imajica & KL if it makes any sense to them next time I see them. I'm glad to hear that it's working for you at home!
I have now tried to turn the spell checker on at work and I immediately get the following message. "Stop running this script? A script on this page is causing IE to run slowly. If it continues to run you computer may become unresponsive." (Screen shot available if it would help.)
Obviously not an overly good thing to happen.
(Checked again on this message and it worked fine so it may only be the larger files which are causing the problem.)
Exactly RG. It's the large files and the ones that are littered with misspelled words. Especially those with dialects and such.
Even a regular file, will slow it down. For me, I've found that enabling it when I'm finished to check for errors is working the best.
Smaller files are no issue, but I've noticed browser performance issues in the larger ones. Like a lag when I type.
It's working for me in Firefox but I didn't really pay much attention it. I just turned the editor on long enough to check if it was working then switched back to the plain text editor.
When I get home, I'll see if I can figure out anything.
