Over-all Design

Our site is admittedly starting to look a little busy.
Everyone can go into their account, click on the edit tab, and hide any of the blocks that you don't wanna see.
I hope to get John C. (he's an acquaintance of mine that will be joining us shortly) to help with some ways to cut down on clutter. Like collapsable boxes, for shout, comments, who's new, etc. ...and Bunty has a top nav bar filtering scheme in mind that will really add some functionality.
...so...that's where we're going with this. ...and don't be discouraged. We hope to be functional and running w/i a week.

I think it's going GREAT! I'm impressed with what y'all have done thus far, and from scratch, even.
Kudos to both of ya!
Oh my gawsh! somebody got the spell check underliney thing to work!!!!
That was like my highest personal priority. I suck THAT bad at spelling.
Now to see if it works in the books n such.
Kudos to both of ya!
Thank you Dave. It can't happen fast enough.
...and the kudos go to KL and Bunty.
I'm just the complainer. *grin* ...and then they work their magic.
Nice job moving the avatars in posts, KL. :wav: Have you looked into the Taxonomy Image module by any chance? It would be cool if we could get that working...down the road.
More immediately, here are some overall-design questions:
1) Do people like the "breadcrumbs" -- the little links at the top of the main column that tell you where you are on the site, eg Home :: Forums :: Site Stuff :: -- where they currently are? I was thinking that since they're for navigation, it would be more consistent to have them in the navbar.
2) How often will people use the search feature? I'm wondering if it needs to be that high up or if we even need it in the navbar (I assume we'll want it in the wiki.)

I like the breadcrumbs, and I like where they are.

I use it, will use it, quite a bit actually. But, if we could get it in the top clear to the right, that might be nice. I don't mind looking for it either, but I hate to see it get buried.
I posted a book page--a repost of the "Family Outing" piece originally posted over at LCG. I also added photos of Kate and her father to help people picture the characters involved.
However, I noticed that once it was posted there was no option to edit it. Me no like. Me often make changes or corrections to grammar, missing words or improper formatting. That's hard to do when there's no option to edit the page. Please help!

I think I know what happened. Can you edit it now?
I can--and did. So what happened?
Did you post a 'book page' or a 'blog page'?
The players will have total control of their blog/journal type entries. However, their ability to create book pages are more limited. All players should be able to 'edit' book pages though.

It was a book page, and because it wasn't assigned to the TCQ Book he didn't have permissions to edit it.

I'm still hoping we can get around this by not using a Taxonomy for campaigns. Eager to hear what John C thinks about this.
There are actually two places where we have to categorize our content. One is the Story field above the text box, which Sin saw and set to TCQ. But underneath the text box is the Book Outline option. That has to be set to Conquistadors>Side Stories or whatever.
Yes, this is confusing.
I turned off access to creating new Pages for folks who aren't GMs. That should cut down on some of the confusion.

Awesome visual, Bunty. ...and Thanks to Sin for mentioning this.
I disagree, this isn't confusing. It's just a matter of knowing it, which I need to take care of. Perhaps we could highlight REQUIRED fields in RED text or some such? ...and not allow a submit unless they're selected.
Although, really, I'm not sure that players really want to put side stories in books, cuz then they won't show up on their blogs. ...and as a GM, I'd always be happy to start a book page for anyone that wanted one. Then again, I'm not opposed to players starting book pages. *shrug* It's just that, I assume they'd want these linked to their blogs just out of personal preference.
Speaking of simplifying...now that we can upload images within the stories, I'm thinking of turning off the Image Attach option. Seems redundant. Thoughts?
Not a complaint, just an observation--a question, really.
I notice that the items on the front page do not appear in the order they were posted. This is confusing, since you can look and see nothing new...unless you scroll down and find a later item buried in the stack.
Que pasa? My "Family Outing" book page, for instance. As soon as it was uploaded I went to look at the front page--and it was several items down, instead of at the top as the newest item. Is there some arcane sort order I'm unaware of?
It's not redundant for those of us who use the plain text editor.

This is a temporary thing. The reason for this is because I stickied the game moves. This is NOT a long term solution. The reason that I am stickying them right now, is because of the amount of copying and pasting of old content into the new site. AND, because we don't have our New/Update move block functional yet.
Resolving both of these issues (porting over old content & getting new/update content block) are high on our list. Once those are accomplished, things will be front pages the same as we're used to, where newest items land at the top of the page until they're pushed down by new content.
It's not redundant for those of us who use the plain text editor.
Good point. I say leave it...it isn't hurting anything, and then people can choose which to use.
I'll make sure to cover both options in the FAQ. Speaking of my imaginary FAQ. *grin* KL, where can I see this module that you spoke of?
Gripping hand is, tagging content gives people more ways to find what they're looking for. Did I mention I like the tags?
It's just cuz China hates you.
Don't code warriors type in the HTML tags?
Actually I hadn't even thought of that, I was just thinking of the redundancy of two ways to embed an image, with one method kind of inferior. But if you'll use it, say no more.
I like the tabs at the top of the pages, however, some of these pages can get a bit lengthy (thinking of the TR pages at the moment.) and I'd like to see either a 'return to top' link or an edit button at the bottom of the page, to make editing long pages that much easier.
Great suggestion.
Thanks. Don't know if that's something KL can do with the new theme or not.

It should be something I can do.
