Some spam accounts are rejected immediately by our system, when they fail to authorize their email.  I've also set up some additional blocks, to restrict the .info email addresses that most of the obvious spam was coming from.  On top of that I review all accounts that get through and block them if they look suspicious.

It is certainly possible for me to make a mistake during this process.  So if you are having issues, or have recommended someone who is having issues, with accessing the site...please let me know and I'll remedy it.

If we continue to get suspicious activity we'll add some captchas or something, it's easy to do, I was just hoping to avoid them cuz I hate 'em.

Please, no captchas. Most captchas have already been broken and people serious about spamming won't have any trouble setting up an account. The only ones that are semi-effective are the ones even humans have trouble with and speaking from experience the frustration is not worth it at times. I've given up registering for sites when after the second or third try I still got the captcha wrong.

Captchas are also bad from an accessibility standpoint. Depending on the captcha system used those who are color blind or have poor eyesight might find it impossible to register. The text on a web site can usually be enlarged allowing those with poor sight to be able to read the site but not be able to make out the captcha which cannot be enlarged without pixelatting and becoming even more difficult to read.

Purging Accounts

If you notice a lot of change over in the Who's New information block, it's because KL and I have been actively purging spam accounts.  Between certain registration patterns that they use and a cool website that KL found, we're fairly confident that we're catching most of them.

Yay us!

Good for us.  I was dreading

Good for us.  I was dreading having to change my email account again.  I mean how many offers for sex with horny virgins in my area with complimentary viagra samples can one man handle anyway?
