Chronicles of Amber...or maybe Highlander?
I'm just curious if anyone out there is a fan of the Chronicles of Amber and would consider a game? I've run several FtF games, some lasting years, mostly in the DRPG, though I did one in Hero. I've also played in a few PBEM versions, but that medium was slow. I haven't thought about it in a while, but I might be interested in running a game here (though I would definitely prefer playing in one).
As a heads up, absolutely no knowledge of the books is required. In fact, I'd prefer most if not all the characters know nothing of Amber - so if you don't it is no obstacle. You can discover it in-game. It is a multversal setting with a fantasy core. Players could make a character as they desire in a world of their own design - or we could use a common world as a starting point (almost any world). I would suggest staying away from super-powered characters and heavily cybernetic ones - that wouldn't translate too well. Characters would all be close to human appearance. If you want something special, we could maybe work something out. Amberites are never mundane. Whatever they do in life, they do well.
One last thing, they are nearly immortal. So you could have lived for centuries.
There was a Rutger Hauer movie called Crossworlds that was similar in concept, set on Earth. Not a great movie, but had a very Amber feel.
Anyone interested in such a thing?
Or alternatively, what about something like the movie Highlander?
I also love post-apoc genres...

I love the ideas. Unfortunately I'm committed to as many games as I can handle right now.

Same here... about to start my own game or I'd jump on this. I loved Amber DRPG, and ran a FTF game for several years. Lends itself really well to this venue too!
I'll definitely watch with avid interest if you get enough players
Lem you bastard!
I absolutely love the Amber books and would kill to be in a game, but unfortunately I'm maxed out as well, especially with my work schedule and time issues.
Corwin for king!
Yeah...CoA were good books (though a bit dated), and the style of Nextgen seems to fit it very well - not to mention the quality of writing here is top-notch.
No worries though, there has been a spate of new games just recently and I haven't put much thought into it. Just doing a temp-check. Aside from Amber, Supers games are my favorite genre (Amber kinda deserves its own genre), but one seems to be enough to give me my fix. Sadly, it does not help my craving for fantasy, supernatural, sci-fi, or apoc. I don't have enough time to play many games, so fusions and multiversal games help.
I'll wait for a lull to begin any new games.
Out of curiosity, if I do run an Amber game - what system would you prefer? Amber DRPG or Hero?
Even picked up one of the Amber books to refresh my memory on a couple of things...
I'm out. Sounds like fun but my dance card is full.
I'm looking to get my toes wet again.
I'll keep an eye out. Also, we can always post and find players outside of NextGen. I have a big list somewhere of all the sites I used to crosspost on.
I prefer Hero system, but as long as I don't have to be heavily involved in creation or rules knowledge, I'm game for whatever.
Look who the cat dragged in. Glad you're back!

I'm refamiliarizing myself with the site. Never thought I'd have reason to say that!
1) we're glad to have you back, and 2) even if I weren't thinking seriously about running this, I would be now.
I'll post a casting call and intro this weekend, and put together character creation/submission guidelines (with an HD Template or Package to use in character creation).
For all you Amber fans out there, I'm mostly looking for characters who don't know anything about Amber, so your characters can be almost anyone from anywhere and anywhen, as long as they're mostly homo sapiens). I would also suggest that you shy away from cybernetics and superpowers. You would end up disappointed. Also, I may take one or two characters who know about their heritage if you have read the books. It's no advantage to be one of these folks. From a writing perspective, it might even be a disadvantage, but I'll allow it.
I'll lay it out more in the casting call.
Lem, check with KL before you post a player call. There might be a game or two in line ahead of yours.
We also need some basic info about the game so we can set things up in the back end.
At the minimum we need:
1. What's the name of your game?
2. A blurb for your game, a short synopsis of some sort that gives me some insight about it. (example: Hudson City - Where Heroes Lose Their Innocense)
3. The acronym/abbreviation you want to use for the game.
4. What image galleries you're going to need. i.e. Do you need just the main one or are you going to need sub galleries such a Cast (PCs). If you're not sure what this means please look in our image galleries for examples.
Right now there are 2 games in the casting queue before yours. We ask that no more than one game be actively casting at one time to keep them from overwhelming each other. As soon as an admin gets the above information your game will be listed as coming soon and you will have a forum to answer people's questions in while you're waiting for your turn to cast.

That is all info I intend to provide this weekend. I was asking Torchwood in chat yesterday so I wouldn't step on her toes...
His toes... HIS toes...
:)
Maybe I'm getting you mixed up with someone else. I'm working from two-year old memories...sorry about that...
Sorry, who is Admin now?
That would be me, I'm KL. All the admins are the same as before though China is still getting back in the swing of things.
Right now Bunty and I are the ones getting the games set up.
