ZP: GM Schedule
Thu, 05/27/2010 - 12:35
Just a note to say that Today I'm not really going to be touching any stories but this weekend I will likely be on in the evening and you might even find me in chat. Not sure yet. My wife is out of town this weekend and so I'm left to my own nefarious devices, which will surely include cleaning, some game play, and some typing.
I'm also going to perform 6 impossible things between breakfast and lunch, as a side note. Don't try them at home, they are in fact impossible.

Comments
Sounds exciting! ...but scary.
Nope, too late. I'm inspired. I'm going to do 7. (I do of course have to one up you. It is just my nature.)
Hey guys will you be donig those 6 or 7 things without nets or safety ropes....
Sorry, your six/seven impossible things don't impress me. Come clean my house, balance my bank statement, wash my car, cover my shifts at work this weekend, mow my lawn, change the oil in my car, and you would have earned my eternal awe.
Then again, those are impossible things after all. Hmmm. Go figure.
Will try to update tomorrow or Thursday, it's turning out to be one of those weeks and the thrilling adventure of UML diagrams and the accompanying documentation has left me drained like I was ravaged by a ghoul. Not to mention some whole dental appt thing later today followed by another meeting at work about projects which is apt to be more painful than the dentist appt. Then there's the meeting tomorrow outside of work. I'm sure Thursday I'll be thrown to the wolves, Lobo included, and Friday... maybe Friday I'll stand out in the backyard and dance around a lightning rod for kicks.
I'm sure there's ninjas involved somewhere in there as well. But my apologies for keeping you all on the edge of your collective seats.

Thanks for the heads up and your ongoing attempts to keep this very interesting campaign that we are enjoying, well ongoing.
I hope your Thursday and Friday come soon enough for you and that Lobo and the rest of the wolves cut you some slack.
a heads up, I will be out of town starting Wednesday, so the updates I make today/tomorrow likely will be the last post for about a week. My Father in Law is having Major Heart Surgery and so My Wife and I are heading there to be close. I may get a chance to post but I might not worry about it until I get back.
Thanks.
Husband, Father, Gamer, Programmer
No worries, sir. Go take care of family. We'll be here when you return.
Please don't worry about us or anything else but your family. May your father-in-laws surgery go well and all your family come through this healthy and happy.
I'm sure everyone here can relate so don't stress about us. I'm sure for a week we can find something to occupy our time. Like spending time trying to think of something to spend time doing XD It is very time consuming lol. Best of luck to your family.

I'm back. My father-in-law is awake, though it was a trying experience. His lungs are working and his heart is beating again. He's talking and drinking water. I believe that he will be alright.
Husband, Father, Gamer, Programmer
Glad to have you back with us and happy to hear that your father seems to be recovering fully.
Dido I am glad everything is doing better than before it is good to have you here again...

Sorry about any delays, work gave me an off handed warning about my internet activity so I've had to change my game times. And Nextgen doesn't play very nice with my cellphone... grr.

I really need to remedy the mobile site issues. From what I understand people can view the site fine, but it isn't possible to insert text in the edit blocks.
Is your experience simlar? What phone are you using?
There are some mobile themes available that should be able to remedy this, I just keep forgetting to prioritize it.
It's not a theme issue. It's whether or not Javascript can be used on the mobile phone. That's not something we can fix at our end.

Both RPG Fusion and LCG had a mobile theme that worked well with mobile users. LCG didn't have the rich text editor, but Fusion does.
Not sure what else they did differently to get rid of the java issue, but it seemed like a fairly easy fix by adding a couple of modules. ...but something in their core could be different than ours.
Is RPG fusion using the same editor? There are some that use different methods. I've looked into this and it is a known issue the editor we use does not play well with mobile devices.
Short of changing our editor there is nothing we can do other then wait for them to make it compatible.

They use the updated version of our editor, the one that doesn't play nicely with image assist. Or didn't the last time I checked. I think it's called CKeditor.
Been looking at this some more and the problem is not limited to our site. It really depends on the mobile device each person uses. The most incompatible are any Apple products, such as the iPhone, Ipad, etc. If this was a simple theme issue it could be fixed quick but it's a compatibility issue between some mobile devices and the WYSIWYG editors.
Do a search for the problem in Google and you'll come up with a lot of discussion on it and no real solution other than disabling the WYSIWYG editor and only having people turn it on when they want to use it.

I'm using an HTC Ozone that uses a Windows CE system. It's recent enough but I can't update it as Verizon has that functionality locked out. Most of the problem is speed. I can view the site fine but the amount of Javascript slows me down. I've posted in the forums using my phone before but I have to be careful with the textarea as the phone can sometimes get hung up there then I have to shut down the browser completely and start over. Which is why I don't like to use my phone to post. (I'm on my PC now, BTW)
Maybe the Images slow me down a very tiny bit also. If there was a module that functioned the same as the site that I could access with a mobile.* or m.* lead in that would access a different set of CSS files to barebones the whole site or not. I understand that this is not a simple request and that this is probably not where enhancements and upgrade time would want to be spent.
I do use my phone to read what has been posted occasionaly. Phones are not the ideal way to surf the web despite what I see on TV.

That makes sense. There are fairly simple ways of streamlining the content for display on mobile phones. It would just be a case of finding the right theme and enabling the user to switch themes when they want.
Unfortunately I have no way of testing mobile themes as I don't even own a cell phone much less one that can access the web so I wouldn't be able to troubleshoot it if there were problems.

I can always troubleshoot. If you want to try I'd recommend the simplest of themes. The less a phone has to process, the better.

My apologies for being lax of late. Apparently I wasted a lot of work time on my online activities. I'm using my lunch time today to make posts. Doing this at home is difficult at best. My boy is a little over 2 and a half and he is busy busy busy. So this is also a heads up that It will probably continue to be a little slow right up and through Christmas. After the new year, I'm going to try and figure something out with a laptop to have at my work desk and use that instead of a work computer. Because although I am not using work time on my games. I have come to realize, I'm not really getting anymore done. It's very boring, and I stare off into space, and I really don't like documenting programming procedure all that much. And there goes some more time.. and....
well I digress. Hopefully Next year I'll cull some of the people who decided that this wasn't the right thing for them and think about structure a little bit more. Thanks for sticking with me. I hope everyone is enjoying it so far.

I'm always apologizing. I'm having trouble with my home internet connection, and there are some family issues on top of that. Family issues of course come first. I'd also like to let folks know that I can enter comments on my phone and maybe from there someone can move it up into the story that way I could post from my phone and move things along.
If it's not one thing it's another, y'know...

There has been a death in my wife's family. Not sure how the next three or four days are going to go. This is just a heads up.
Husband, Father, Gamer, Programmer
No worries, sir. Take care of your family. We'll be here if you need us and when you feel up to getting back.
I'm afraid that I'm not been feeling the wow factor of ZP for a several months now. Not sure quite what it is. I would like to know, if I call it quits, would anyone be troubled by this?
Husband, Father, Gamer, Programmer
I understand that things have not quite been as exciting as they might have been otherwise but I'm just beginning to get some kind of solid handle on my character and her new status in the world.
I find the world interesting and the whole concept exciting. I am sorry that you are losing interest.
Is there anything that we as players can do to help you get your interest back?
I'm with F8 (can I call you that?) on this. The game right now is more soap opera than action flick, but I don't necessarily feel that is a bad thing. I'm enjoying developing the relationship between Tucker and Vesper as each finds out more about the other.
I also understand that if the GM ain't having fun, the game ain't working, so I'll support the offer too. If there's anything we cand do as players to enhance the experience for you, let us know.
Hi guys had a good break hope you are all well,
I agree it is unfortunate to read you are losing interest in the campaign considering the effort you put into it. I see you suggest players take a more active role in the threads If this will help I will try to move things along more with Justin.
Regards
Rachael aka Justin Kase
Hi there,
I know that there was some flagging interest and that the holiday season is busy for everyone. All I'm looking for is a sense that the game will continue.
Please?
(Yes, you can call me F8. :) )
I second the motion!
NaNoWriMo had me sweating bullets this year. So taking a little breather. I still need to find that umph, that really helps me feel energized. I may try a couple of different things in the coming months to see if I can't make this a little more friendly for everyone.
